Visegrád is famous for the palace of King Matthias, the great ruler of the Renaissance. This beautiful building complex with 350 rooms was a real wonder of its time with a red marble decorated fountain, and one of the most magnificent royal residences of that period. Archaeologists have excavated the Hercules Fountain from a 15-meter-thick layer of rubble, faithfully reconstructed and rebuilt. The Solomon Tower, originated from the 13-century Century is well preserved. The tower is part of the fortification. It used to join the Water Bastion and the fortress on Castle Hill with a strong castle wall. Three sites are of particular importance: the ruin of a Roman military camp erected on the Sibrik hill, Nagyvillám and the observation tower on the Schwarzenberg.
